Seven kilometers from Fry, south of Poli, a monastery with a pebble floor overlooks the Libyan Sea — one of the best spots in Kasos for sunset.
The monastery of Agios Mamas is located south of Polis, about seven kilometers from Fry. It stands out for its pebbled floor and its carved wooden iconostasis, but mainly for its view of the Libyan Sea, which makes it one of the most popular sunset destinations on the island. It has a small guesthouse for those who want to stay overnight.
The festival
The monastery's feast day is on September 2nd, with the main festival taking place on the eve and attracting pilgrims and visitors from all over the island. Along with the monastery of Agios Georgios in Hadies and the chapel of Agia Kyriaki, Agios Mamas is one of the few temples of Kasos that stand far from the settlements.
