Monastery of Saint George of Hadion

Η Μονή του Αγίου Γεωργίου στην Κάσο

The Monastery of Saint George is located at Hadia, about 12 kilometers south of Fry, in one of the most isolated areas of the island. According to local tradition, an icon of Saint George was found floating in the sea by two shepherds, who placed it on a donkey; where the animal stopped, the first church was built in 1690. The original church was demolished in 1902 and the current one, the work of the master Antonis Kanavos, was built in its place. The monastery celebrates with a festival every Bright Tuesday.
