At the highest point of Kasos, where the wind blows strongest and the gaze simultaneously reaches the northern coasts of the island and Armathia, stands the small chapel of Agia Kyriaki — one of the most isolated, but also most rewarding destinations on the island for those who love views and sunsets.
At an altitude of approximately 600 meters — the highest point on the island according to the Municipality, although other sources give a slightly lower altitude of around 550 meters — lies the small chapel of Agia Kyriaki. It is one of the three churches of Kasos that are located far from the settlements, along with the monasteries of Agios Georgios in Hadies and Agios Mamas, which gives all three a more solitary and contemplative character compared to the churches in the villages.
What makes Agia Kyriaki stand out is precisely its location: from the hill where it is located, a stunning view is offered towards the northern coast of Kasos and towards the neighboring islands of Armathia and Makra. Access is usually via a gentle mountain path, and the climb — although it requires a little effort — rewards the visitor with one of the most complete panoramic views of the entire island.
The best sunset in Kasos
Agia Kyriaki is known locally as one of the best spots on the island to enjoy the sunset, especially in combination with the view towards Armathia — the small, uninhabited island with its heavenly beaches located northwest of Kasos. The combination of altitude, isolation and open horizon makes the climb up there an experience very different from visiting a monument or museum in Fry: it is a moment of quiet contact with the island's landscape, and for many visitors it is the most memorable point of a stay in Kasos.
