Antiperatos Beach

Οι όρμοι του Αντιπεράτου με ρηχά τιρκουάζ νερά, δυτική Κάσος

On the west coast of Kasos, three small bays with clear waters form Antiperatos beach — a place where natural beauty is inextricably linked to one of the most tragic chapters in the island's history.

The western side of Kasos is home to the beach of Antiperatos, formed by three successive coves with clear waters and a pebbly coastline. Its exposure to the northerly winds often gives movement to its waves, a quality that sets it apart from the more sheltered beaches of the island and gives it a wilder, more open character compared to the calmer bays of the southern coast.

This area, however, is not only important for its natural beauty. Antiperatos is closely linked to the Holocaust of Kasos in 1824: according to local tradition, it was at this very spot—or very close to it—that the Ottoman-Egyptian force that destroyed the island landed, having been led there through an unguarded route. The monument that stands today in the area recalls this history, giving the beach a significance that goes beyond its simple natural beauty.
