Even before Fry existed, the port of Kasos was located here — in a sheltered bay with sandy beaches and crystal clear waters that today is the most beloved beach on the island.
Emporios is today the most popular beach of Kasos, thanks to its proximity to Fry and the calm, crystal clear waters of a bay protected from the winds. Its sandy beach, relatively rare for a rocky island, makes it particularly pleasant for a long stay on the coast.
The interest of the beach, however, is not only aesthetic. This same bay historically served as the island's first port, before this role was transferred to today's Fry. The Roman and early Christian settlement that developed in the area, with the ruins of two early Christian basilicas having been discovered nearby, shows that Emporios was the center of gravity of life on the island for centuries, long before it emerged as the popular beach it is today.
