In the village of Panagia, a church from 1896 with a pebbled floor and the marble shrine of Saint Kassiani hosts the largest festival on the island every August 15th.
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary dominates the village of Panagia and dates back to 1896. It is known for its carved wooden iconostasis, pebbled floor and marble shrine of Saint Kassiani. Next to it is the complex of six small Byzantine churches known as the "Six Churches".
The biggest festival of Kasos
Every August 15th, the Assumption of the Virgin Mary hosts the largest festival on the island, with over 2,000 pilgrims — a number that far exceeds the permanent population of Kasos and gives a measure of the importance the celebration has for the people of Kasos, on the island and abroad.
