One of about fourteen small islets and rocky islets surrounding Kasos, along with Armathia, Astakida, Pontikonisia, Karofylla, Lytra and others. Makronisi, along with some of the neighboring islets, forms with Kasos a shallow, lagoon-like sea area with a sandy bottom and rich fish fauna, which has traditionally contributed to the island's fishing economy. It is uninhabited.
