Its marble iconostasis stands out among the wood carvings of Kasos — and its festival, on September 14, is the only Lenten festival on the island.
The Church of the Holy Cross is located in Agia Marina and stands out for its marble iconostasis — unusual on an island dominated by 19th-century wooden iconostasis.
The Lenten festival
The festival takes place on September 14, the day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, and is the only festival in Kasos where exclusively Lenten dishes are offered. This is precisely why one of the most special dishes of the island is called teapot, the fasting substitute for traditional meat pilaf.
