Agia Marina is located about 1 kilometer west of the port of Fry, at an altitude of about 120 meters, and is the largest village in terms of population of Kasos. It was the medieval capital of the island and is divided into two districts, Akri in the north and Kasteli in the south. The village has preserved many churches and captain's houses that testify to the maritime tradition of Kasos.
This is where the island's defenders gathered during the devastating attack by Hussein Pasha in 1824, a fact that gave Agia Marina a symbolic position comparable to the Acropolis for Athens. Every year, on July 17, the memory of Agia Marina is celebrated with a large festival that brings together Kassiotes from all over the island.
